  • Spiral Pipe Mill

Spiral Pipe Mill

The Spiral Pipe Mill is a high-capacity production system designed to manufacture large-diameter spiral-welded pipes from hot-rolled steel coils. These pipes are primarily used for oil and gas transmission, water pipelines, structural piling, and other infrastructure applications requiring high strength and long service life.

The mill forms a continuous pipe by feeding the steel strip at an angle and welding the edges helically (spirally), enabling the production of a wide range of pipe diameters and lengths with optimized material usage.

Coil Opening Stand

The Coil Opening Stand is the first crucial station in a Spiral Pipe Mill. It securely holds the coil and facilitates safe, controlled uncoiling to open the lip of the coil.

Coil- Car & De-Coiler

The Coil Car is a crucial component at the entry section of a Spiral Pipe Mill. It is used to load and transport heavy steel coils from the ground to the Decoiler with precision and safety. Equipped with a hydraulic or motorized system, the coil car ensures smooth positioning and alignment of the coil for the uncoiling process.

The Decoiler, also known as an Uncoiler, feeds the steel coil into the forming section of the pipe mill. It securely holds the coil and gradually unwinds it as needed. Designed to handle large, heavy coils, the decoiler is equipped with a hydraulic system and motorized rotation to ensure smooth and controlled feeding.

First Pinch Roll

The Pinch Drive, also known as the Pinch Roll Unit, plays a vital role in feeding the steel strip smoothly and accurately into the forming section of the Spiral Pipe Mill. Positioned after the Decoiler, the Pinch Drive uses a pair of heavy-duty rolls to grip the strip and push it forward under controlled speed and tension.

This unit ensures consistent strip movement and alignment, which is essential for accurate forming and high-quality welding.

Leveller Flattener

The Leveler Unit is designed to correct flatness defects and remove coil-set or edge waves from the steel coil. By passing the strip through a series of precision rollers, the leveler applies controlled bending forces to produce a uniformly flat strip—an essential requirement for accurate pipe forming and high-quality welding.

Coil Joining Butt Welding

The Coil Joining Unit is a key component in the Online Spiral Pipe Mill that ensures continuous production by connecting the trailing end of one coil to the leading edge of the next. This process eliminates downtime during coil changeovers and enables a seamless, uninterrupted flow of material into the forming section.

Depending on the production requirements, the joining can be done through automatic or semi-automatic welding, typically Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) or MIG/MAG (GMAW).

Edge Milling Machine

The Edge Milling Machine is a critical unit in the Online Spiral Pipe Mill, designed to precisely machine the edges of the steel coil. This process ensures a clean, uniform edge profile, which is essential for achieving high-quality, full-penetration welds during pipe production.

By removing surface irregularities, oxides, and unevenness along the strip edges, the Edge Milling Machine enhances weld seam alignment and reduces the risk of weld defects.

Main Drive

The Main Drive is the central power unit of the Spiral Pipe Mill, responsible for driving the forming section where the steel strip is shaped into a continuous spiral. It provides the torque and rotational force needed to pull the strip through the entire pipe mill. The drive system ensures synchronized movement with the welding, forming, and cutting operations, which is essential for precise and stable pipe production.

Edge Prebending

The Edge Prebending Unit is a critical component of the Spiral Pipe Mill designed to improve the quality of the weld seam and ensure smooth pipe formation. It precisely bends the leading and trailing edges of the steel strip before it enters the spiral forming section, aligning them with the forming angle of the pipe.

By pre-shaping the strip edges, this unit ensures a proper fit-up at the start and end of each coil, eliminating open gaps or misalignment during welding.

Forming Section

The Formation Table, also known as the Spiral Forming Table, is the heart of the Spiral Pipe Mill where the flat steel strip is gradually formed into a spiral pipe. As the strip is fed into the forming section, it is wrapped around a forming mandrel or cage at a precise angle, creating a continuous spiral with controlled pitch and diameter.

This unit ensures accurate pipe geometry and seam alignment, providing the foundation for high-quality welding and consistent pipe production.

Exit Table Exit Bay

The Exit Table, also known as the Run-Out Table, is located at the end of the Spiral Pipe Mill and serves as the final stage in the production line. It receives and supports the finished pipe after it has been cut to length, allowing for smooth unloading, inspection, marking, or transfer to storage and further processing.
Designed to handle large-diameter and heavy pipes, the Exit Table ensures safe and efficient handling without damaging the pipe surface
